Side by side
Crypto wins on cost and reach, fiat on protection. Which matters more depends on whether you would ever need to dispute a payment.
| Crypto | Card or bank transfer | |
|---|---|---|
| Can you reverse it? | No. Transfers are final | Card payments can be disputed with your bank |
| Cost to send | Network fee: under $0.001 on Solana, about $0.08 on Ethereum, about $2.18 on TRON for USDT | Set by your bank or card issuer and by the casino |
| Value while you play | Moves with the coin, unless you use a stablecoin | Stays in your currency |
| Withdrawal speed | Network time after the casino approves it: seconds to an hour | Bank processing on top of the casino's approval |
| Identity | The casino may still check ID; the exchange where you buy will | The bank knows who you are |
| Where it works | Offshore-licensed casinos that take crypto | Locally licensed casinos and most others |
Network fees: indicative snapshot, 6 Oct 2026 (TRON Proposal #104 energy price; Etherscan gas tracker at 0.458 gwei for a 63,221-gas USDT transfer; Solana docs; prices from CoinGecko). AGCO Standard 5.69 via Ifrah Law.
Where crypto helps
Cost. On a cheap network the fee to send a deposit is a fraction of a cent, whatever the amount. Pick the network before you pick the coin; see the fee table in our stablecoin guide.
Speed. Once the casino approves a withdrawal, the transfer takes the network's confirmation time, from seconds on Solana to about 10 minutes per Bitcoin block.
Reach. Crypto works across borders without currency conversion, which is why casinos licensed offshore use it to take players from many countries.
Where fiat is safer
Disputes. If a casino does not deliver what you paid for, a card payment can be disputed through your bank. A crypto deposit cannot.
Stable value. Money in your own currency does not move while you play. With crypto you get that only from a stablecoin.
Local licensing. Some regulators require deposits through regulated financial services: Ontario's AGCO says crypto "shall not be accepted". A licensed local casino is where your consumer protections are strongest.
Do crypto deposits get better bonuses?
Some crypto casinos quote bonuses in coins and set larger maximums, but the value depends on the wagering and the game, not the payment method. A bonus paid in BTC also changes value with the price while you clear it. Our crypto bonus guide shows the maths.
How to choose
- Check what is legal where you live If a locally licensed casino is available to you, start there.
- Decide how much protection you need If you would want to dispute a payment, use a card or bank method.
- If you use crypto, use a stablecoin It keeps the cost of crypto low and the balance in dollars.
- Match coin and network to the cashier Send only on the network the deposit page names, and test with a small amount.
Terms
- Chargeback
- A card payment reversed by the bank after a dispute. So what: Not available for crypto.
- Network fee
- What the blockchain charges to process a transfer, paid in its own coin. So what: Depends on the network and how busy it is, not on the amount.
- Stablecoin
- A token that aims to hold $1. So what: Crypto rails without price risk on the balance.
Crypto vs fiat FAQ
Is crypto cheaper than card payments at casinos?
The network fee often is: under a cent on Solana and about $0.08 for USDT on Ethereum at the 6 Oct 2026 snapshot. Add the cost of buying the coin and any casino fee to compare fairly.
Is crypto safer than paying by card?
Safer for your card details, less safe for disputes. A card payment can be charged back; a crypto transfer is final.
Are crypto withdrawals faster?
After the casino approves a withdrawal, crypto arrives in network time, from seconds to about an hour. A bank transfer can add days of processing. The casino's own approval time applies to both.
Why don't licensed casinos accept crypto?
Some regulators require deposits through regulated payment providers. Ontario's AGCO states that cryptocurrency is not legal tender and shall not be accepted.
Can I deposit fiat and withdraw crypto?
Some casinos allow it, many require you to withdraw with the method you deposited. The casino's terms say which.
