Crypto mines: odds per mine count and how to verify the grid

Mines hides a number of mines on a 5×5 grid of 25 tiles. You reveal tiles one at a time; each safe tile raises the multiplier, a mine ends the round, and you can cash out between picks.

Below: the odds of five safe picks for common mine counts, the multiplier a 1% edge allows and how the mine positions can be checked.

Short answer

What are the odds in crypto mines?

With 3 mines, your first pick is safe 88% of the time and five safe picks in a row happen about half the time. More mines make each pick riskier and raise the multiplier; at a fixed edge the average cost stays the same.

3 mines, 1 pick 88%

22 safe tiles out of 25.

3 mines, 5 picks ≈ 49.6%

Pays about 2x at a 1% edge.

10 mines, 5 picks ≈ 5.7%

Pays about 17.5x at a 1% edge.

Cashing out early or late does not change the edge; it only changes how much you risk and how often you win.

Crypto mines in four lines

  1. 25

Tiles on the grid; the multiplier follows from how many are safe.

  2. 0.99 ÷ P

The fair multiplier at a 1% edge, where P is the chance all your picks are safe.

  3. 88%

The chance your first pick is safe with 3 mines.

  4. Same cost

Every mine count and cash-out point has the same average cost at a fixed edge.

Rules

How a mines round works

One round

  1. Choose the mines Pick how many of the 25 tiles hide a mine.
  2. Bet The mine positions come from your seed pair and nonce before you click.
  3. Reveal tiles Each safe tile raises the multiplier shown on the cash-out button.
  4. Cash out or hit a mine Take the current multiplier at any time; a mine loses the stake.

The mines are placed when the round starts. Clicking patterns cannot move them.

House edge and RTP

Five safe picks: chance and multiplier per mine count

Five reveals in a row, at a 1% edge. The multiplier is 0.99 divided by the chance.

More mines, bigger multiplier, same RTP; the cost per bet does not depend on the mine count.

Provably fair Example data

How provably fair mines works, with a worked example

A common scheme used by seed-based mines. Each casino documents how it turns floats into mine positions on its fairness page.

  1. The casino commits Before your first bet it shows the SHA-256 hash of a secret server seed. Server seed hash (shown before play) 7229ce0f7baef5c038b08c9149f105b4ecb5626b0589e007b88248eabbb6eb38
  2. You add your seed You set a client seed; each bet adds a nonce counting from 0. Client seed · nonce ccr-demo-mines · 0
  3. The result is derived HMAC-SHA256 with the server seed as key and client:nonce:0 as message. HMAC-SHA256 output ec860d6b 9453cb83b7bda3d9c04bdd1dda5a1159f62390024872637ba847d55d
  4. Bytes become a result Floats from the HMAC stream place the mines one by one among the tiles still free. The table shows the first float. First four bytes → float → result 236, 134, 13, 107 → 0.9239204775 → 0.9239204775
  5. You check After you rotate seeds the casino reveals the server seed; its SHA-256 must match step 1. Revealed server seed e2937cbc8d323713571e1aacfd0fb5dbf194770a840cac583e0a63095359ee06
What it proves

The casino fixed the server seed before you chose your client seed, so it could not pick results after seeing your bets.

What it does not prove

That the casino will pay a withdrawal, that the edge is low, or that third-party slots are fair.

Patterns and exceptions

What the mines maths shows

Picks

With 3 mines, each extra pick is riskier than the last

What it means: decide your cash-out point before the round; the chance falls with every safe tile because fewer safe tiles are left.

Exception: the multiplier rises at the same rate, so the average cost per round stays at the edge.

Chance of k safe picks = C(25 − mines, k) ÷ C(25, k). Computed, not measured.

Method

How we rate casinos for mines

What we read before a casino appears in the list above.

  1. Edge and payout table

We read the house edge or RTP the casino states for its mines game and whether the payout table is published.

  2. Fairness page

We check that the casino documents its provably fair scheme and lets you set your own client seed and rotate the server seed.

  3. Licence and terms

We note the licence the casino states and read the bonus terms for game weighting and maximum bets.

  4. Coins and withdrawals

We list the coins the casino accepts and the identity checks it states for withdrawals.

  5. Limits

We check for deposit limits, loss limits and self-exclusion you can set yourself.

The edge comes from the casino's settings

Crypto originals are built in-house, so each casino chooses its own edge and payout table. We read them from the game's info panel instead of marketing copy.

Glossary

Mines terms

Mine count
How many of the 25 tiles hide a mine, chosen before the round. So what: it sets the risk of each pick.
Cash out
Ending the round and taking the current multiplier. So what: it locks in the win; it does not change the edge.
Fair multiplier
One divided by the chance of all your picks being safe. So what: the casino pays this times (1 − edge).

Crypto mines FAQ

How many mines should I play with?

It changes the swings, not the average cost. Few mines give frequent small wins; many mines give rare large ones. At a fixed edge the RTP is the same.

When should I cash out in mines?

There is no cash-out point that beats the edge. Every stop has the same average cost; pick one that fits your budget before you start.

Are the mines placed before I click?

In provably fair mines the positions follow from the seed pair and nonce, fixed before the round. You can check them after you rotate seeds.
